Raven Stands-Alone

September 6th, 2011 – Struck by a Ford F150 in a parking lot. Driver was accelerating at approximately 30-35mph. Driver was remorseful and took full responsibility. Driver claims he will pay for all medical expenses.

Brandon Morse was accompanying Raven at the time. The policeman who assessed the scene was strangely tempted to cite Raven with a ticket, claiming it to be unlawful to ride a bike in a vehicle parking lot. As most of us know already, a bike is a vehicle. Does the policeman suggest that walking through a parking lot is also unlawful, as our own two feet are NOT vehicles after all?

Raven endured 3 fractures to both femurs. He will not be able to walk or ride for a few months, but is otherwise okay. All the doctors who assessed his situation feel confident he will walk and ride bikes after a few months of therapy.

Blueberry bike is totaled :(

Currently at Shands Hospital and will remain there for about two or three weeks.

Visitors MUST be kept to a minimum for the next several days. He is still recovering from surgeries. Please consider coming at a later date so that he may rest. Call or text before visiting to find out whether or not it’s a good time for him. NO large groups.

Quote: “I was riding downtown, following the rules of the road, when a business van creeped up behind me, eventually alongside the left of me. The van then decided to merge into parallel parking, no blinkers and no consideration for the fact that I’m riding alongside the right side of the van, slamming me into the sidewalk throwing me off my bike. Luckily I landed on my feet took a few rigid steps with my bikes stem in my hand dragging it behind me. Learning to dismount from riding fixed for awhile played a huge role in this not being a more serious “crash”.”

I spoke with John Woodcock yesterday evening (September 8th 2011) and he stated that his body and steed were fine, but that his report was when he was pedaling down Post Street on (Sept 7th) just past Edgewood Avenue, a late 80s model green Ford pickup cut him off at a side street where the road forks into a local neighborhood. John maneuvered but had a close call to a motorists unconcerned with his right of way and safety as a fellow citizen of the human race. John screamed and the driver abruptly crammed on brakes halfway through the turn which almost had Mr Woodcock head straight into the pickups tailgate and rear bumper, John again with quick wits and motor skills (unlike the unawares driver) pushed off of his truck bed and kept mashing onward. So all in all just a sincere claim for more awareness on our local neighborhood streets within the ever crowded RAP urban area(s). – Harley Michael Henry [our summarized phone conversation]

My bike and I are perfectly fine, just pissed off.
