Hi, I am new to this and would like to participate in your next critical mass outing. How many miles is it and do you have a map of the route? Any other information you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you for your interest, Mimi. The more the better. I’ve copied and pasted the words of my colleague, Kirk Tsonos, from the Facebook Event Page. Here is his info:

Last Friday of every month – 5PM – Memorial Park – 1620 Riverside Avenue

We ride out at 5PM sharp, so be a little early. The ride will start at Memorial Park and end at Burrito Gallery/Burro Bar.

      Info/Recommendations…
+ It is not required, but highly advised to wear a helmet (it only further supports our cause)
+ Stay in one lane with the group. Try to stay 2 bikes wide (2 single file lines). Technically it’s the law, but sometimes it’s hard to do with a large group.
+ Riding speed should be about 10-15mph, usually it ends up being slower
+ All bikes are welcome (road bikes, fixed gears, bmx, mountain, cruisers, hybrids, recumbents, tandems, tall bikes, etc)
+ Stop at traffic lights and stop signs (when applicable)
+ Use hand signals to notify cars when we are turning or changing lanes
+ DO NOT flick off, cuss out, or throw things at cars or pedestrians, just wave (this is a peaceful protest/ride)
+ This ride is not recommended for ages 16 and under
+ Drinking alcohol before or during the ride is counterproductive & unacceptable. Please refrain from this until AFTER the ride.
+ Showing up a little early before the ride begins is highly suggested for those wanting to hear updates on events, the mass route, etc
+ Feel free to be social and interact with other riders once we stop at Burrito Gallery or Burro Bar. Not only is this a ride to promote bicycle awareness, but it’s a great way to meet and connect with other cyclist in our city

Critical Mass is held every month, usually last Friday of each month, in cities across the globe. There are many individual reasons for participating. Critical Mass is commonly held to raise awareness and promote the safety of non-motorized modes of transportation (specifically bikes) when sharing the streets with motor vehicles.

Jacksonville needs to unite on this. Let’s turn one of the WORST cycling cities into one of the BEST. Spread the word. Join the group on Facebook. Come out and ride.

A special thanks to our sponsors ZenCog, Burro Bags, Burrito Gallery, Sanctified Sound, Demeanor Design, and 904 Fixed for helping promote/fund this event.
